カセットテープ『マザーグースの歌』（メーカー・品番不明）

パチソン関連の会社が作ったと思われる、マザーグース（英語の童謡）の音源である。 なお、この記事の内容の一部は、アガサ・クリスP様からいただいた情報を参考にしている。

特記事項

歌っているのは、男性コーラスグループ「ザ・ブレッスン・フォー」と、女性3人組のコーラスグループ（おそらく）である。 伴奏は、ピアノ（アコースティックピアノ、エレクトリックピアノ）やギター、管楽器などが中心である。 一発録音に近い形で収録されたと思われ、歌のピッチが悪かったり、楽器のフレーズに間違いがあったりする箇所がいくつかある。 その一方で、生演奏に特有の臨場感が十分伝わってくる。

ここに収録されている音源は、一部の曲が短く編集されている。 しかし、編集方法が悪く、前後でリズムがずれている箇所がある。

なお、同じ音源を収録したメディアが他にもあり、それぞれで編集されている箇所が異なる。 現時点で以下の存在を確認しているが、全曲の完全な音源は見つけられていない。

• カセットテープ『子供のためのマザーグースの歌』（企画・制作：株式会社マックエンタープライズ　MC-1019　歌と演奏：ミナト混声合唱団）

曲名は日本語で記載されているが、すべて英語で歌われている。 ただし、明らかな「日本人の英語」であり、マザーグースに対してよく言われる「英語の発音を覚える」などの目的には、ほとんど使えない。 また、1番の歌詞を数回繰り返しているもの、一般に知られているのと旋律が違うものなどもある。

収録曲の詳細

以下、それぞれの曲の英語での名称、歌われている箇所などの詳細をまとめる。

ロンドンばしがおっこちる（London Bridge Is Broken Down）

非常に長い曲だが、歌っている箇所は、

• London Bridge is broken down
• Build it up with wood and clay
• Wood and clay will wash away
• Build it up with bricks and mortar
• Bricks and mortar will not stay
• Build it up with iron and steel
• Iron and steel will bend and bow

である。

あつあつまめのおかゆ（Pease Porridge Hot）

「Porridge」ではなく「Pudding」と歌っている。 同じ歌詞を2度繰り返しているが、上記の『子供のためのマザーグースの歌』では3度繰り返されており、こちらが本来の音源だと思われる。

めえめえめんようさん（Baa, Baa, Black Sheep）

Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes, sir, yes, sir,
Three bags full.
One for my master, And one for my dame,
And one for the little boy That lives down the lane.

という歌詞を、2回繰り返す。 一般的に、この曲は「きらきらぼし」のメロディーで歌われるようだが、部分的に酷似しているものの、細かいメロディーや構成が異なる。

があがあがちょうのおでましだ（Goosey Goosey Gander）

Goosey goosey gander,
Whither shall I wander?
Upstairs and downstairs,
And in my lady’s chamber.
There I met an old man,
Who would not say his prayers,
I took him by the left leg,
And threw him down the stair.

という歌詞を、3回繰り返す。 メロディーは、一般に知られているものと同様である。

ねんねんころりよねんころり（Bye, baby Bunting）

Bye, baby Bunting,
Daddy’s gone a-hunting,
Gone to get a rabbit skin
To wrap the baby Bunting in,
Bye, baby Bunting,
Bye, baby Bunting.

というフレーズを2度繰り返す。 メロディーはさまざまな形で歌われており、それぞれで歌詞の構成がやや変化するようだ。 このカセットに収録されているのと同じものも、実際に存在する。 間奏部分で、ベースのフレーズ（リズム）を間違えたと思われる箇所がある。

ポリーやかんをのっけてよ（Polly Put the Kettle On）

歌詞やメロディーは、現在一般に知られているものに比較的忠実である。 全体を3回繰り返す。

おかをこえてはるかかなたへ（Tom, he was a piper’s son）

この日本語タイトルはあまり正確ではない。 「over the hills and far away」というトラディショナル・ソングは確かに存在するようだが、それとは別の曲である。 歌い出しのフレーズが「Tom, Tom, the piper’s son」というマザーグースにも似ているが、別物である。

Tom, he was a piper’s son,
He learnt to play when he was young,
And all the tune that he could play
Was ‘over the hills and far away’;
Over the hills and a great way off,
The wind shall blow my top-knot off.

という歌詞。 本来はこの続きがあるようだが、ここでは歌われていない。 ここまでの歌詞を2回繰り返している。

ねこちゃんねこちゃん（Pussy Cat Pussy Cat）

I’ve been to London to look at the Queen.

という歌詞を2回繰り返している。 メロディーは、一般的なものと同じである。

ごふじんがたがうまにのりゃ（This is the Way the Ladies Ride）

という歌詞を2回繰り返す。 一般的にどのようなメロディーで歌われるのかが不明だが、このカセットに収録されているメロディーは、他に確認できていない。

という歌詞を3回繰り返す。 メロディーは、一般に知られているものと同じである。

ジャックとジルはおかにのぼった（Jack and Jill）

という部分のみが、5回繰り返される。 メロディーは、このカセットとまったく同じものを他に見つけられていない。

コールのおうさま（Old King Cole）

歌詞全体を2回繰り返す。 上記の『子供のためのマザーグースの歌』では、後奏が大幅にカットされ、リズムがずれている。

ポリー・フリンダースちゃん（Little Polly Flinders）

Little Polly Flinders
Sat among the cinder

という歌詞を2回繰り返す。 この曲も「きらきらぼし」のメロディーで歌われることがあるようだが、それとは異なる。

わたしのちいさなこのみのなるき（I Had a Little Nut Tree）

まるまるとふとったむすこのジョン（Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling, My Son John）

一般的なものと、歌詞が異なる。

以上の歌詞を3回繰り返す（2回目で転調）。 メロディーは、一般的なものとまったく異なる。

ねんねんころりよきのこずえ（Rock-a-Bye Baby）

歌われている歌詞は、以下の通り。

Rock-a-bye baby,
on the treetop,
When the wind blows,
the cradle will rock,
When the bough breaks,
the cradle will fall,
And down will come baby,
cradle and all.

この歌詞を1度歌った後、転調して終了となる。 ただし、転調直後に明らかな編集の跡があり、リズムがずれている。 また、前奏も一部カットされている。

一方、上記の『子供のためのマザーグースの歌』では、転調後、別のメロディーで前述の歌詞を2度続けて歌って終了となる。 ただし、後奏にあたる部分でやはり編集の跡があるため、こちらも完全な音源ではないようだ。

前半のメロディーは、一般に知られているものと同様である。 後半のメロディーで演奏されたものは、他に確認できていない。
